On-Air Editing
Burbank, CA
38,000 square feet

The Warner Bros. Ranch, used solely for television
production, has an entirely different character than the
main studio lot. Here, the traditional Mediterranean
architecture is replaced with small scale industrial
buildings, trailers, and stage sets. The design of the new
On-Air Editing Facility responds directly to this character
by repeating the industrial massing and materials found
on the neighboring buildings. The concrete block and
steel structure is exposed in a composition of corrugated
metal siding, cement plaster and storefront windows. On
the front facade, a red plaster wall hangs boldly like a
stage curtain dividing public from private. The corrugated
metal walls containing the core and circulation zone
conceal a back-of-house simply skinned in the muted
tone of the standard studio plaster. Together, these
elements compose a state of the art production facility in
perfect harmony with the character of the satellite studio
lot.
