Matt Construction |
Santa Fe Springs, CA 13,000 square feet Matt Construction’s main goal in the design of their new office was to create a clear separation of public and private zones. The public zone, used by visiting clients and subcontractors, include conference rooms and bid rooms that surround the reception area. These rooms, visually unified by a single floating ceiling plane, are functionally divided by glass panels of varying opacity. The private zone, used by the company for the activities of everyday work, is kept isolated from the serenity of the reception area. Designed by Stuart Royalty while at HLW International, the space also uses color to help distinguish public from private and calm from active. Raw building materials were used throughout to create the familiar and comforting atmosphere of a construction site. The reception desk includes one-inch-thick steel plate with the company logo plasma-cut into it. |
