Interactive PR, a public relations incubator for growing dot
com companies, commissioned HLW with Stuart Royalty
as the project designer to convert a 1930s
South-of-Market warehouse into their new office. The
facility lies directly on axis with the west end of South
Park in the multi-media Gulch. The project included
major seismic improvements to the building in the form of
two massive concrete shear walls, one of which became
the edge of the spacious, two-story high lobby. It serves
as the boundary between public and private space and
includes a pattern of colored glass windows set into
battered openings. A heavy timber mezzanine was added
with two architectural stairs that open to the library and
research atrium.
