The Audio Underground
Burbank, CA
12,500 sq. ft.

For decades the basement of Building 4 sat underutilized as an
archive film vault on the Warner Bros. Studio lot. But with the
Sound Department housed above and a new state-of-the-art post
production building across the street, this basement was the
natural choice when selecting a location for the newest sound
editing facility. A beautiful example of Art Deco architecture,
Building 4 was originally designed in the early 1930’s as a color
film processing plant with heavy chemical tanks and equipment.
The basement was a maze of closely spaced concrete columns
and low hanging beams and finding enough column-free area to
house the program spaces was a challenge. Leaving many of
these concrete elements exposed is what gives the new space its
unique character. Profeta Royalty was commissioned to design a
Foley Stage, three Concept Avid Rooms, two Edit Suites, A
Voice-Over Room, a Client Lounge and Pantry. Nicknamed “The
Audio Underground” for its refined industrial ambiance, the facility
has quickly developed a reputation for acoustic excellence and
has become one the most sought-after on the Warner Bros. lot.
